JOB SUMMARY 

The Fuel Assistant Manager of Accounting reviews and oversees all documentation for tracking propane, diesel, and gasoline distributed through the Fuel Department and facilitates necessary transactions. Work with Assistant Manager of Depot Fuel Operations to keep a spreadsheet of daily fuel orders and deliveries, and cross-check against incoming invoices and delivery sheets from vendor.  Maintain contact with the Accounting Department for weekly payment to fuel vendor.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs the proper account setup for all users, to ensure that tracking is done properly.
  • Work with the Assistant Manager of Mobile Fuel Ops to make sure that all open accounts are receiving deliveries and that notices are being placed on the generators of those Participant customers whose account is on hold for any reason.
  • Review all paperwork submitted by other Assistant Managers at the end of each day so it can go to the Fuel and Finance Records staff member for computer input the following morning.  Calculate total fuel dispensed in tank measurements against the number of dispensed gallons documented for each department, cross check with the numbers entered into Fulcrum to make sure the technology is working accurately.
  • Stay in touch with the BM Accounting Department in regards to payment processing, provide daily updates and reach out in regards to any problems.
  • Work with Assistant Manager of Depot Fuel Operations to keep a spreadsheet of daily fuel orders and deliveries and cross-check against incoming invoices and delivery sheets from vendor.
  • Maintain contact with the Accounting Department for weekly payment to fuel vendor.
  • Set up new accounts as needed on site.
  • Organize and manage the staff and volunteers who comprise the fuel accounts team.
  • Oversee the Registration staff to troubleshoot any issues with registration of new accounts.
  • Help implement Burning Man’s integrated plan and work with all BRC departments to ensure fuel distribution and safety.
  • Attend meetings and create reports as necessary to keep the Fuel Superintendent informed of the progress and/or problems of the project.
  • Write and submit the final “Ember” report by the end of event cycle that scrutinizes and critiques the successes and failures of the season with the purpose of improved overall efficiency.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by Fuel Superintendent.        

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess knowledge of Burning Man, BRC, and its departments.
  • Trained in liquid fuel handling.
  • Trained in the use of portable fire extinguishers.
  • Must be organized in order to efficiently track fuel usage.
  • Must have a professional demeanor in verbal and written communications.
  • Must have experience supervising major projects in remote wilderness and/or desert environment.
  • Must be able to lead by example, motivate, and have excellent interpersonal skills.

REQUIRED

  • Experience with MS  Word, MS Excel, and Google Products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive).
  • Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Recommended OSHA 10 Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS

Off-playa:  Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are required. Will handle phone calls, emails, part pickups, errands as deemed necessary (ie. Pick up parts).

On-playa:  Work is primarily sedentary but will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity, therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation.  Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.

This is a temporary, full-time position ineligible for benefits, working out of Gerlach, Nevada.
