DPW Container Build Carpenter

The Container Build Carpenter will take direction primarily from the Container Build Assistant Manager to construct free-standing living and office units, and to convert shipping containers for temporary office and living space for use in the production of the Burning Man event. They will work with the team to interpret construction drawings, develop production processes, and take lead on daily projects and workflows.

  • Work as a lead on construction of Living Boxes, Office Boxes, and container build outs and conversion, according to provided designs.
  • Collaborate on remodeling and repairing existing LBs, OBs, OCs, LC, and other building infrastructure.
  • When appropriate, provide feedback and input to the Container Build Lead to help insure efficient and safe conditions for construction.
  • Able to select and evaluate build materials.
  • Lead small groups of people on daily projects.
  • Able to adhere to the construction schedule.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the Container Build Assistant Manager.


  • Knowledge of general construction practices and/or structural engineering.
  • Ability to lead by example, motivate teams, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Take direction well, takes initiative.
  • Team player in a production shop environment.
  • Must be able to follow direction through to task completion.
  • Two years general construction carpentry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with power tools, including table saw, skilsaw, miter saw and jigsaw.
  • Ability to work directly from construction drawings and designs.
  • Willing to relocate to Black Rock Station in Gerlach, NV for the duration of the build season.
  • Capable of climbing on ladders and carrying at least 80 pounds.
  • Experience with finish carpentry (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of commercial or residential electrical wiring (preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic metal fabrication (preferred).


  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Valid Class ā€œCā€ license.


On-playa and Off-playa:  This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing.  This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance


This is a temporary, full-time position ineligible for benefits, working out of Gerlach, Nevada.
