The Burning Man Intellectual Property Team is looking for volunteers!



Intellectual Property Team Volunteers assist the Team with researching and tracking issues reported by the community, as well as conducting outreach to entities and individuals who are making unauthorized commercial use of Burning Man’s intellectual property (IP) or images shot at Burning Man.



  • Research reported violations of Burning Man’s IP and image-use policies by searching Google, social media platforms, and other websites
  • Record the details of each report on the IP Team’s tracking spreadsheet, including screen shots
  • As directed by the IP Team Coordinator, conduct outreach to the creators of problematic pages, posts or listings

From time to time, IP Team Volunteers may be asked to monitor certain sites or accounts to ensure that corrective actions have been taken or to record new misuses of Burning Man IP or images, and may be assigned other duties.



Experience with complex internet searches.

Understanding of Burning Man culture and the Ten Principles, particularly Decommodification.

Familiarity with Burning Man’s IP and image-use policies.

Professional judgment and discretion.



A computer with access to the internet.

Working knowledge of Google Docs and Sheets.



Basic knowledge of trademark and copyright law.
